Anglo-Dutch Shell abandoned investments in Ukraine’s GTS

Concern Shell - partner of “Gazprom” in the project “Sakhalin-2″ and “Gazprom Neft” in a joint venture to develop oil scavenger Salym Petroleum will not apply to participate in the creation of the operator of the gas transportation system of Ukraine, according to “Izvestia”.

- At this point, Shell no interest to invest in the Ukrainian gas transportation system, and a system of underground gas storage facilities, - said the head of public relations department of the company “Shell-Ukraine” Anna Dumanskaya.

Close to the Shell source hinted that the company invests in projects to the transportation of hydrocarbons, when the project involves pumping her own energy - here we are talking about participation in the modernization of pipelines through which the EU will Russian gas.

Zavalny Paul, president of the Russian Gas Society, a member of the energy committee of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, believes that the western companies face a choice: become a shareholder of the company - the operator of the Ukrainian gas pipe - or keep the ability to work in Russia. It seems that at this stage Shell chooses the second option. This confirms its spokesman Maxim Shub.

- Our current projects in Russia continues, despite the economic realities. In this case, we carefully look at the sanctions and take the necessary actions in their way, depending on the situation. He stressed that the company has no plans to unilaterally to withdraw from the PSA project “Sakhalin-2″ or a joint venture with “Gazprom Neft” Salym Petroleum.

In the near future, “Naftogaz of Ukraine” intends to begin formal negotiations with the operators of gas networks for their participation in the management of the Ukrainian GTS. According to unofficial data, has three foreign companies are interested in participating in the project, including the American Chevron.
